By 1967, Ernie Richardson had gained a certain celebrity status as the skip who took the Richardson brothers to winning four Curling World Championships. At the urging of friends and family and with the same fierce determination he showed on the ice, Ernie built a lighting fixture supply store in Regina, Saskatchewan. The store was initially known as Richardson House of Fixtures, but today it is known as Richardson Lighting.

While the famous Richardson name initially opened some doors, it was his steadfast commitment to service and customer satisfaction by Ernie and his staff that saw the business grow rapidly. The first store was located on 1431 Scarth Street; as Richardson’s reputation for honest and knowledgeable service grew, so did their need for space. In 1973 the move to 2460 7th Avenue was made, 9 years later the store location was changed to its present location - 2101 7th Avenue; in the heart of Regina’s Warehouse District. Additional space was added in 1992 increasing the operation to 18,000sqft with a 3,500sqft showroom.

In the spring of 1979, a location in Saskatoon was opened, in the beginning it only had 500sqft of showroom space and 2 full time employees. In May of 1984, the store moved to a larger location at 402-47th Street East, which is still the current location. A second store in Saskatoon was opened in 1989 when Hi-lite Lighting was purchased on 8th Street East. The two Saskatoon locations were consolidated into a single location on 47th Street East, along with an expansion and renovation in June of 2000. This expansion increased Richardson lightings' presence in Saskatoon to 16,000sqft with a 6000sqft showroom, the largest in Saskatchewan and what some people in the industry say is one of the nicest showrooms in Canada!

In our 55 years of being in business, Ernie Richardson is proud of the phenomenal growth we’ve enjoyed in this time. He is equally proud of the commitment and dedication of every staff member we’ve employed over the years; we could not have done it without them! As of 2022, the Regina Location employs 15 full time and 2 part time associates while the Saskatoon store employs 13 full time staff members.
